Botanical Eco Printing Workshop

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 10/18/2025
Join us for a full-day workshop where art and nature come together. Eco printing uses natural pigments from leaves, flowers, and bark to imprint patterns onto silk. No prior experience needed, just a love of nature and curiosity! We'll cover: selecting and preparing plant materials, using silk and natural mordants, bundling, steaming, and unwrapping creations, as well as the basics of natural dyes and leaf chemistry.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Embark on a transformative journey into the world of eco printing! Join us for an inspiring full-day workshop where the beauty of art beautifully converges with the wonders of nature. Eco printing is a unique and meditative process that harnesses the natural pigments found in leaves, flowers, and bark to create exquisite botanical patterns on silk, making each piece a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. No prior artistic experience is necessary; all you need is a passion for nature, a curiosity to learn, and a willingness to explore your creative side! All materials are included.

Throughout this workshop, we will guide you on a detailed, step-by-step journey into the art of eco-printing. You will learn to:

  • Select and prepare plant materials for optimal prints
  • Work with silk and natural mordants to enhance color and detail
  • Bundle, steam, and unwrap your creations with anticipation and awe
  • Understand the basic science behind natural dyes and leaf chemistry

 Please bring:
1. Fresh or flattened flowers/plants  - Your own selection of botanical materials will add a personal touch to your creations!
2. A brown bag lunch. We will take a short lunch break during the workshop. Since this break won’t allow enough time to order food, please pack a meal. Although we don’t have a refrigerator at the studio, we can provide a small ice chest to keep your lunch cool and fresh.
