Ages for which our activities are most appropriate:
In 1917 the International Association of Lions Clubs began as the dream of Chicago business leader Melvin Jones. To date the Lions Club International has grown to include nearly 1.35 million men and women that make up 46,000 clubs in 194 countries and geographic areas. The Fraser Lions club has been in existence since 1946 and has approximately 40 active members. In 1925 Helen Keller addressed the Lions International Convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, USA. She challenged Lions to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness.” From this time, Lions clubs have been actively involved in service to the blind and visually impaired. Blindness is the major focus of the Fraser Lions fund raising efforts donating to Leader Dogs for the Blind www.leaderdog.com, Michigan Eye Bank www.mebtc.org and Penrickton Center www.penrickton.com among many other worthy charities. In 1954 the official motto "We Serve" was adopted.
