Mount Clemens Public Library has proudly been serving its community since 1865. Along with the Detroit Public Library, we are one of the oldest public library systems in Michigan. Silas Wood, the superintendent of Mount Clemens Public School at the time, felt the need for a public library in the city and set aside space in the Union School building (now St. Mary Catholic School) to establish a collection. Our library eventually moved to the Carnegie Library Building (now the Anton Art center), then set up a permanent home at 150 Cass Avenue.
