What better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than with the ultimate patriotic superhero, Captain America? It's time to explore the story behind one of the most iconic superheroes, and how he was masterfully portrayed throughout the 20th-century.What better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than with the ultimate patriotic superhero, Captain America? It's time to explore the story behind one of the most iconic superheroes, and how he was masterfully portrayed throughout the 20th-century.

Led by award-winning comic book art illustrator and historian Arlen Schumer, this "visualecture" of both masterful takes on Captain America will include:

- The origin story of Captain America, his exploits in the 1940s, and his brief “comeback” as a “Commie Smasher” in the 1950s

- The overnight success of the comic book superhero, from selling millions of copies per issue to how he helped sell war bonds during World War II

- Why Jack Kirby said that Captain America was his favorite character to draw out of the universe of comic book characters he created in his seven-decade career

- The story behind why Jim Steranko had to take time off between issues two and three of his terrific triptych, spelled out by Kirby himself in a special one-issue “breather”

Afterward, we'll have a Q&A with Arlen — any and all questions about Superman are welcomed and encouraged!

See you there, virtually!
